Racing for Tots

What is Racing for Tots?

Racing for Tots is a program which was started during the 1997 autocross season by PSCC members Joe Pavan and Martin Landers to benefit children in local hospitals during the holidays. What we are asking for is a donation of a reasonably priced toy or small stuffed animal which a child can hold onto. At each PSCC event
you will see a Racing for Tots collection box near the timing and registration trailer.

Who can be a part of Racing for Tots?

You can! Anyone who donates to Racing for Tots will bring a smile to the face of a child who happens to be hospitalized and away from home during the holiday season. We collect toys throughout the autocross season and distribute them during the holiday season. By asking for donations from now to November, we will have a whole bunch of toys. Then in December, there will be a whole bunch of smiles!

How have we done so far?

In December of 1998, Joe and Marty distributed toys to children in four local hospitals. With the help of racers like yourself, they made some children who may not have had a lot to smile about just a little happier. In subsequent years, the toy distribution has been expanded to include additional hospitals in the Mid-Hudson area, as well as a few orphanages and even the Stat Flight helicopter ambulance.

How can we do better?

By spreading the word. This web page is a new medium for the Racing for Tots program. One which we hope will help to spread the word about what we do. If you are reading it right now, its working. Remember, this is a voluntary program.

But what if I'm not in the Hudson Valley?

Feel free to set up your own Racing for Tots program! All that it takes is someone who is dedicated to collecting toys during the season, and is willing to oversee the distribution during the holiday season. The more groups that run their own Racing for Tots program, the more smiles there will be during the holidays.
